Highlights this week included a visit from a former IB student from Finland to talk to all our students. Currently studying in the famous Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Mr Jamin Hu is a man of many talents; an accomplished pianist, a budding engineer with TEDex talks under his belt, the Founder and Director of a company, and also has inventions currently being patented! He studied the International Middle Years Programme and Diploma Programme and encapsulates the qualities that students aspire to in both.
And by the way, he is only 19 years old!
On his way to Heathrow from interviews at Imperial College he spoke to our students about Personal Projects, the IB Programme and how to learn from failure and strive for success. In his own Personal Project, Jamie successfully put a weather balloon into the stratosphere to photograph the curvature of the Earth; a truly outstanding achievement for a (then) fourteen year-old.
The students were engrossed and asked numerous questions. They’re now tremendously excited about Personal Projects in MYP 5. Finally, he entertained us with his wonderful piano playing (an example of his playing is on Youtube below). We thank him for his truly inspirational presentation.
